Volunteering
Being a ‘volunteer’ is someone who has graciously donated his or her time, on a voluntary basis, to help as may be required by Age Concern Sandwich. As a volunteer you will, of course not be an employee of Age Concern Sandwich and although we are extremely grateful, you will not receive payment for your services. People have a wide range of reasons for volunteering. If you haven’t been involved before, you may be wondering why you should volunteer. Reasons for volunteering include:
- To make new friends.
- To have fun.
- To have a chance to learn new skills.
- To improve confidence.
- To give something back to the local community
Whatever the reason, all volunteers agree that it is extremely worthwhile and rewarding doing something that really makes a difference to people’s lives.
We understand that the time that you can give to Age Concern Sandwich may vary. Some of our volunteers may be able to give regular amounts of time per week whereas others may only be able to give their time during holiday periods.
We will try and schedule your time with us whenever it suits you and the services that we provide. Some volunteering roles are based onsite (in our Wellbeing Centre, charity shops or Sunflower Centre) while others are based off-site (Meals on Wheels delivery, Transportation service and Befriending).
All roles will require a reference check and some will require a Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) check.
Age Concern Sandwich would find it extremely difficult to manage without our wonderful volunteers, and services would have to be cut if we do not have sufficient volunteers.
We hope that you will choose to volunteer with us and we look forward to welcoming you in to our Volunteering family.
